As a parent I've tested most versions of the Skadar boat day with my own children and hundreds of guests' kids. Here is what actually works and what makes small people miserable.
The right duration
3 hours is the sweet spot with children under 8. 4 hours is fine for older kids and teenagers. Full-day tours are usually a mistake with small children.
Private always
A private boat lets you set the pace, cut short when needed, and choose swim stops. The cost difference over a shared tour is minor for a family of four.
Best swim spots for kids
Shallow shingle bays near Poseljani. Gently sloping entry, warm water, no current. Avoid deep-water swims with young children.

What to pack
Snacks — the single most important item. Sun hats. Long-sleeve rash guards (the sun is intense on the water). Towels. Water shoes for pebble beaches. A small waterproof bag for phones.
Age-by-age notes
Under 3: fine on a wooden boat, keep tour under 2 hours. 4–8: 3-hour private sport boat with two swim stops. 9+: a 4-hour tour with a monastery visit is a genuine highlight.
