Skadar Lake Journal is an independent, locally-written travel publication focused on Skadar Lake, Virpazar and the wider Montenegro. Every guide, itinerary and recommendation on this site is written by someone who actually lives here — not aggregated, not rewritten, not generic.

Why this site exists

Almost everything written about Skadar Lake in English is either a translated brochure or a five-line paragraph copied between travel blogs. The lake deserves better. It's one of the great wetland landscapes of Europe, a national park, a Ramsar site, and a genuinely welcoming place to visit — but you need real, local information to make the most of it.

• We only recommend places and operators we've personally used.

• Prices are estimates in EUR at time of writing and change seasonally.
• Guides are updated at least once per season.
