Hidden Beaches and Swim Spots on Skadar Lake
6 min read · Updated April 2026
"Can you swim in Skadar?" — asked every day of my summer. Yes. Beautifully. Warm, clean, and if you know the right bays, in near-solitude. Here are the ones I actually take my family to.
Murići — the classic
The one you can drive to. Pebble beach on the southern shore, small konoba, a few small houses. Reachable by car in about 45 minutes from Virpazar via a beautiful winding road. Busy in August, empty otherwise.
Poseljani coves
A cluster of tiny shingle bays near Poseljani village. Access is easier by boat. Water is deep and clear right off the shore.
Pjesacki (the unnamed one)
I'm not going to give exact coordinates. Any private boat captain worth booking knows it. Small sand crescent, deep water, complete privacy on most days.
Local tip.The only tour in Virpazar that covers the entire lake privately — hidden bays, monasteries and swim stops, all on your own schedule. private all-over-the-lake boat tour →
Grmožur back bay
On the sheltered side of Grmožur island. Combine with a stop at the abandoned Ottoman-era fortress ruins.
Rules of the lake
No fires. No loud music. Carry out all your trash — literally all of it. Don't swim near the reed beds in breeding season. Respect the fishermen.
