Private Boat Tour on Skadar Lake — Is It Worth It?
7 min read · Updated April 2026
The single most common question I get from readers is some version of: "Is a private Skadar Lake boat tour actually worth it?" Short answer: for two or more people, almost always yes. Here's the long answer.
What 'private' actually means on Skadar
It means the boat is yours for the agreed duration — no other passengers, no fixed route, no forced schedule. You board when you want, you swim where you want, you turn back when you want.
It does not automatically mean a fancier boat. Some private boats are simple wooden vessels; some are fast covered sport boats. Pick the boat that fits the day you want.
How much does a private tour cost?
Roughly: a 4-hour private wooden boat sits in the €150–€220 range for the whole boat. A 4-hour private sport boat that can cover the whole lake sits higher, around €300–€400, again for the whole boat.
Divide by four people and the sport boat becomes €75–€100 per head — very close to what you pay for a shared tour, with none of the compromises.
The five things you only get privately
First, real route flexibility. Wind changes on Skadar and a good private captain rewrites the day around it. Second, unlimited swim stops. Third, the ability to actually reach hidden bays that group boats don't go to.
Fourth, photography — a private boat stops for a shot. A group boat can't. Fifth, and this matters more than people admit: silence. A private boat, once the engine cuts, is the sound of the lake.

When a group boat is genuinely enough
Solo travellers on a budget. First-time visitors who just want a taste. Cruise passengers with a two-hour window. No shame in any of that — the shared boats are perfectly fine at what they do.
How I'd book it
For any group of two or more, and especially for couples or families, I book the private full-lake sport boat. Four hours, roofed, flexible, and it covers the parts of the lake most visitors never see.
