The most common accommodation mistake I see is guests basing themselves in Podgorica or Bar and "day-tripping" — then wishing they'd slept on the lake. Here is the honest neighbourhood breakdown.
Virpazar — the default
Best for 90% of visitors. Walking distance to the pier, konobas, market. Wide range from simple guesthouses to well-renovated apartments. Book early for summer.
Murići — for lake-swimmers
On the southern shore, on a real swim beach. Simple bungalow-style cabins. Best for people who want to spend two days actually in the water rather than seeing all of the lake.
Podgorica — for city hotel comfort
40 minutes from the pier. Right choice for one-night arrivals with an early flight or business travellers who want a real hotel.

Poseljani & smaller villages
Quieter, more atmospheric, less to eat within walking distance. Best for return visitors or slow travellers.
