How to Get to Virpazar for a Lake Skadar Boat Tour

From Podgorica

Podgorica is closest: 40 minutes on the E80/E762 towards Bar. The Virpazar exit is signposted. From Podgorica airport it's 45 minutes — a rental car is the easiest option.

A taxi costs €40–50. Expect a weekend surcharge.

From Budva & the coast

From Budva it's 55–70 minutes over the winding road through the Sozina mountains — spectacular scenery, but not for the faint-hearted. Alternative: the Sozina tunnel (toll ~€3.50), about 10 minutes faster and stress-free.

From Petrovac and Sveti Stefan under an hour. From Bar just over 30 minutes.

From Kotor

From Kotor it's 1h 30min — either along the coast to Budva and then inland, or directly through Cetinje. Cetinje is prettier but slower.

For a day trip from Kotor, leave by 8:00 at the latest to make a morning tour.

By train

Yes, Virpazar has its own train station — right on the Bar–Podgorica–Belgrade line. From Podgorica: 25 minutes, a few euros. From Bar: 30 minutes.

The station is a 5-minute walk from the pier. The train is the most relaxed and cheapest way in — but schedules are thin, plan ahead.

By bus

Direct buses run several times daily from Podgorica and Bar. From Budva or Kotor you have to change in Podgorica or Bar — not ideal for a day trip.

Parking in Virpazar

This is the part no blog admits: parking in Virpazar in July and August is a nightmare. The public lot is full by 10 AM and rogue parking gets ticketed.

All tours leave from the small pier right behind the old stone bridge, opposite Restaurant Pelikan. Arrive 10 minutes early — once the boat leaves, it doesn't wait.
